As the years pass, however, he makes a few friends, goes out on a few dates, and even manages to get married, not once but twice.
His first wife soon decides that he is far too soft for her liking. After a series of affairs, she realizes that all the Swedish men she is likely to meet are either already married, too young for her, or almost as soft as Oskar. Accordingly, like many of her kind she divorces Oskar, moves to a southern country where men are men, and marries one of them. Her new husband abuses her from time to time, but by being sufficiently submissive she manages to reduce the frequency and severity of the abuse to the point where she can consider it a small price to pay for the pleasure of having a real he-man make passionate love to her.
Oskar's second wife came to Sweden from one of those southern countries to escape from an abusive husband. But instead of being glad that her new husband doesn't abuse her, like many of her kind she starts to abuse him, at first only verbally and emotionally, and later physically as well, until he divorces her. At this point he decides that the pleasure he can obtain from female companionship isn't worth the pain, and he resigns himself to having as companions only a few male misfits like himself.
