Oskar's horror of Eli's murderous streak overcomes his love for her and he says, "I think you'd better go." Without a word she turns on her heel and runs home. A few days later, he stops hearing noises through the wall, and from outside he sees that the windows of her apartment are no longer covered over. Apparently, she and her father have moved away. As he expected, there are no more newspaper articles about murders; so he no longer has any reason to fear being murdered. Furthermore, Conny and his friends are unlikely to be bothering him any more, and with his newfound popularity, he expects to begin living a normal life.
