You decide that you, in your weakened condition, are less valuable to the Order of the Phoenix than Snape; so you instruct him to kill you.

You now have one more decision to make. The piece of Voldemort's soul in Harry's scar is also a Horcrux, and the only way to destroy it is to kill Harry. This leaves you with two choices, each of which carries a risk of failure. After destroying all the other Horcruxes, Harry could let Voldemort kill him and leave the task of killing Voldemort to someone else, who may not be up to the job. Or else Harry could kill Voldemort and then kill himself with his own wand, but before he does so, he may get Stunned by another Death Eater and his blood used to resurrect Voldemort, whose spirit would still be alive thanks to the Horcrux in Harry's scar. The instructions you choose to give to Harry must not be delivered until they are needed, by which time you will be long dead; so you give them to Snape and instruct him to pass them on to Harry when the time comes.
